Modular solutions for hospitals, or modular construction during the coronavirus

Modular solutions for hospitals, or modular construction during the coronavirus

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the government has decided to set up temporary hospitals. The solution is to provide additional beds for COVID-19 patients. As the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, explained at a press conference, additional medical facilities are to be built in every provincial city. Although the idea is ad hoc, it is worth knowing that the prefabricated construction can be adapted for other purposes later.

What opportunities for healthcare does modular construction provide?

Modular construction is characterised by functionality and rapid implementation. The facilities are sterile and meet safety standards and health and safety regulations. They are ideal as temporary medical facilities used in the fight against coronavirus, but at any time you can decide to expand them, for example by adding additional floors (thus changing their original purpose).

How to use modular technologies after the coronavirus pandemic is over?
Conversion to specialist clinics, treatment rooms

Facilities made from in-house prepared elements are distinguished by their scalability. In order to adapt the premises to current needs, it is sufficient to add additional floors or create additional rooms or treatment rooms. This allows the basic offer of the facility to be expanded to include new specialisations.
Addition of further wards, operating theatres

The buildings used as temporary modular hospitals are characterised by very good performance. They are equipped with basic diagnostic equipment, medical gases and life-saving apparatus. They are also equipped with emergency call systems and monitoring systems to facilitate the work of the medical staff (for more information on the equipment and technology used, see the article 'What is a mobile modular hospital? "What is a modular mobile hospital? Find out more"). The facilities can therefore complement the available hospital infrastructure.
Adoption of the building as administrative facilities

The modular technologies are equipped with complete sanitary, electrical installations. The buildings also have heating installed. The advantages of the prefabricated elements also include the possibility of any room configuration - partition walls are assembled using a drywall system, which makes it easy to change the layout or size of rooms. The buildings are therefore suitable for administrative staff.
Establishment of a blood collection point

Medical service buildings have areas for blood collection, including areas for sample reception, reagent preparation, medical waste storage. They also have utility and storage facilities. Hence, once the outbreak is over, the facilities will be able to be used as points where laboratory tests are performed.
Relocation of facilities to any location in Poland or abroad

The outlets are quickly dismantled and the modules are transported by truck to any location. This makes it easy for investors to create further branches or to supplement existing outlets with new branches, clinics, pharmacy or treatment facilities (according to current demand).
Storing modules for the next emergency

Once the outbreak is over, the buildings can be dismantled and the modules stored so that a ready-made solution is available in the event of another emergency. The prefabricated elements can be kept for a long time without any loss of quality. In the event of any defects, all you need to do is order a warranty or after-warranty service.
Benefits of using modular solutions in hospitals and other medical institutions

The use of modular technology offers many advantages. The individual elements can be combined, rearranged and reconfigured. This creates enormous possibilities for adapting the premises for any purpose after the pandemic has ended. The components used in the construction of the structures are also characterised by durability and robustness (their technical parameters must be good enough to make them suitable for assembly, disassembly and transport). The buildings are also characterised by the use of modern solutions, such as systems for monitoring vital signs.
