Clinical Pediatric Hospital – GCZD Katowice
The Largest and Tallest Modular Hospital in Poland
A new building of the Upper Silesian Child Health Centre (Górnośląskie Centrum Zdrowia Dziecka – GCZD) is set to be constructed in Katowice — one of the most ambitious pediatric healthcare investments in the country. The facility will have seven storeys, with the underground levels built using reinforced concrete technology, while all above-ground floors will be constructed using modular technology with a steel structure supplied by Climatic.
This is a project that sets a new benchmark for modular construction — both in terms of scale and technological advancement. It will be the largest and tallest building in Poland built using modular technology, with a planned usable floor area of approximately 11,000 m² and a volume of around 40,000 m³.
The new space is being designed and built to ensure comprehensive care for children and efficient organization of medical staff workflows. The facility will include:
- Infectious Diseases and Neuroinfection Ward for Children – with 20 single-person isolation rooms, each with a full sanitary unit;
- Pediatric and Pediatric Diabetology Ward – with 25 beds and modern diagnostic and treatment facilities;
- Specialist Outpatient Care – 24 clinics distributed across two floors;
- Modern Emergency Department – with a designated infectious disease area and amenities for people with disabilities;
- Technical and Storage Facilities – including a server room, electrical substation, and medical archives.
The modular technology allows for the precise production of building components at a manufacturing facility in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, fully equipped with all necessary installations and interior finishes. This will enable rapid assembly on-site and minimize disruption to the surrounding area.
The project is being carried out in accordance with sustainable development and circular economy principles — prefabrication reduces waste, lowers the carbon footprint, and allows for future disassembly and reuse of modules.
The new GCZD building in Katowice will not only mark a breakthrough for pediatric care in Poland but also represent another milestone in the development of modular technology in public construction.
