Hospital superstructure in modular technology

Modular superstructure of the hospital in Białystok – fast, precise and without interference

Modern modular construction in healthcare

Modular construction is changing the way we think about expanding and adding structures to healthcare facilities. Thanks to prefabrication technology, it is possible to quickly increase the usable space without lengthy construction work and inconvenience to patients and medical staff.

A prime example of the efficiency of this technology is the extension of the Ludwik Zamenhof University Children's Hospital in Białystok, where the additional floor consisting of 14 prefabricated modules was completed in just 2 nights!

Challenges of hospital extensions and innovative solutions

Adding an extra storey to an operating hospital is always a major challenge. The key aspects are:

Ensuring the safety of patients and staff

Minimizing noise and dust emissions so as not to disrupt the operation of the facility

Reducing the construction time to the necessary minimum

The use of modular technology with a steel structure allowed us to significantly reduce assembly time and limit construction-related inconveniences.

What challenges did we face?

🔹 Limited assembly space – the work took place on the premises of a functioning hospital

🔹 Minimizing noise – limiting noisy work thanks to prefabrication and modular technology

🔹 Night assembly – to ensure the continuity of the facility's operation

Thanks to careful planning and the use of innovative solutions, we completed the project at an express pace.

14 modules in 2 nights – what was the assembly process like?

All modules were pre-assembled in the production hall, which means that they were equipped with installations, interior walls and technical systems before transportation. This meant that assembly could start immediately after delivery to the construction site.

🔹 We used a crane with a load capacity of 500 tons with an additional 14-meter truss for transportation and assembly

🔹 Each of the 14 modules was set up in a precisely planned sequence

🔹 The entire operation took 2 nights, eliminating the impact on the hospital's operations

🔹 Prefabrication of up to 90% avoided delays due to unfavorable weather conditions

Advantages of modular construction in hospital extensions

Modular construction is perfect for adding storeys to medical facilities. Compared to traditional methods, it allows for a significant reduction in construction time and minimizes inconvenience for building users.

Key benefits:

Lower load on the structure – the modules are several times lighter than traditional solutions, which reduces the need for foundation reinforcement

Safe operation of the building during construction – minimization of disruptions to the hospital's operations

Prefabrication of up to 90% – elimination of weather-related problems

Shorter construction time – up to 50% faster than with traditional construction methods

Minimal noise and dust emissions – assembly took place at night so as not to disrupt the operation of the facility
